High-temperature calcined brown corundum is formed by high-temperature and medium-temperature calcined abrasives during the production process of raw brown corundum, and then annealing.
Its main characteristics are: very small expansion coefficient, excellent hydrophilicity, great toughness, high strength, and the sintered abrasives have the characteristics of dark blue color, no network cracks, and no rust spots after sintering, thus improving the accuracy and grinding effect of abrasive processing, especially suitable for the production of high-end consolidated abrasives.
So why should brown corundum be calcined at high temperature? What are the advantages of calcined brown corundum?
1. Improve the wear resistance and grinding effect of abrasives: calcinated brown corundum abrasives have higher compressive strength and better wear resistance, and can provide more efficient grinding effects.
2. Enhance the strength and durability of abrasives: During the high-temperature calcination process, the impurities on the surface of the abrasive are gasified, increasing the surface area of the particles, thereby enhancing the bonding force between the abrasive and the bonding material, and improving the strength and durability of the abrasive. The durability of calcined brown corundum is more than 40% higher than that of ordinary brown corundum.
3. Improve the appearance and cutting ability of abrasive tools: The magnetic substances in the brown corundum abrasive grains after calcination are removed, which reduces the rust spots in the abrasive tools and improves the appearance and cutting ability of the abrasive tools.
4. Eliminate abnormal expansion: During the calcination process, the low-priced titanium oxide, titanium carbide, titanium nitride and other impurities in the brown corundum are further oxidized in the oxidizing atmosphere, eliminating the abnormal expansion problem of brown corundum, avoiding the appearance of mesh cracks on the surface of the ceramic grinding wheel during firing, and reducing the scrap rate.
5. Improve hydrophilicity: Calcination treatment can significantly improve the hydrophilicity of brown corundum, increasing its hydrophilicity by 2-3 times, and even after sintering at 800-900℃ for 120 minutes, the hydrophilicity can be increased by 3.5 times.
